Meet Your Teacher!

When Mrs. Heckmann was a little girl she longed to play piano, but did not want anything to do with reading. Little did she know, she would soon want to be able to sing the words to the songs she was playing on the piano! Since then, Leslie Heckmann has continually led a life revolving around her passion for music. Although originally from Oklahoma, Mrs. Heckmann was raised in Katy, Texas. There she enrolled in beginning band and played the clarinet from sixth grade to this present day. She attended The University of North Texas College of Music where she performed in many ensembles including Wind Ensemble where she played both B-flat and E-flat clarinet.  Additionally, she performed with UNT's non-audition Women's Chorus where she cherished using her voice alongside fellow music students as well as those from all areas of UNT.

During her time at UNT, her love for music education grew. She received several scholarships and opportunities along the way, one being the chance to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary. There she furthered her education of the Kodály method. Mrs. Heckmann was also an assistant for UNT's Early Childhood Music Program for two years. Most recently, Mrs. Heckmann completed her student teaching right here in Denton I.S.D. and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education (Magna cum Laude). She is thrilled to be teaching at Savannah!

Mrs. Heckmann's backpacking trip.

This summer, my husband and I took a trip to the Pacific Northwest where we backpacked in the Northern Cascades and the Olympic National Forest. I love learning about cultures different than mine, traveling, my Australian Shepherd named Dakota, and coffee!
